Renfrew Group is a local ensemble which plays various styles of straight ahead jazz. Its seriousness in pursuing high standards in the sophisticated and intricate artistry of jazz can be seen in its lineup: it consists solely of music school graduates from the Hong Kong Baptist University Music Department and Berklee College of Music (Boston, US), the latter also schooled such distinguished local musicians as Joseph Koo SBS (顧嘉輝), Ted Lo, Chan Fai Young (陳輝陽) and Ronald Ng (伍樂城).

Renfrew Group was first founded in 2005 and was immediately invited to perform as the opening act of the 1st Hong Kong Jazz Festival organized by the Hong Kong Jazz Association. Since its foundation, Renfrew Group and its members has played for not only the general public in hotels, functions, weddings, malls and concert halls, but also acute listeners of fine jazz at major jazz venues including the Fringe Club, Blue Door jazz club, the Foreign Correspondents' Club, and the newly emerged and widely popular live music host Backstage Restaurant, and has continuously been widely acclaimed.

In the Summer of 2007, Renfrew's members who were studying abroad reunited with the ensemble to give a feature concert titled “Bilinguals”, showcasing the versatility of the ensemble and its individuals to play not only jazz but also classical music. The concert was held at the prestigious Jehovah Jireh concert hall, and was a great success both generally and critically. Renfrew Group also released its first album titled “24/7”, featuring music director Patrick Lui's own arrangements of famous jazz standards and an original tune “24/7” after which the album was named. The group also entered one of the top band competitions, the Tom Lee Soundbase Competition, with this tune and took home the bronze prize, which again proved the group's resourcefulness by winning pop music competitions as a primarily jazz group.

In 2008 after performing at the Backstage Restaurant, Renfrew Group was invited by RTHK Radio 4, the only radio channel in Hong Kong on serious music, to give an interview/demonstration on the program “Belle Nuit” hosted by renowned pianist Nancy Loo (羅乃新). In April of the same year, Renfrew Group performed in the USA for its first time at the Jin Restaurant in Boston .
